Advancements in LASIK Technology

There are several excellent machines from companies such as VISX, LaserSight, Chiron, Autonomous and others. It is our opinion that because of the careful scrutiny of the FDA, there is no one machine that can be considered vastly superior to another.
Lasers available in the US as of now include machines by:
VISX
LaserSight
Chiron / Technolas, B & L
Autonomous
Nidek
At the American Eye Institute, both the VISX and LaserSight lasers are used for LASIK. Both are excellent and have the necessary features important to an excellent outcome - including smooth ablation profiles, computerized control systems, and eye trackers. One of the prominent concerns among patients about to undergo LASIK treatments is the concern over what happens if the eye moves during the ablation process. It is reassuring to know that our lasers have eye tracking technology - whereby the laser head and optics actually can move with small movements of the eye.
If there are very large movements, the laser pauses in the ablation process, and restarts in the computerized ablation program where it left off once the eye returns to the normal fixation target.
